Every since the begin of Highschool of the Dead, my Twitter timeline, as well as the rest of the blogosphere have been full of complaints about too much fanservice in it.
Seriously, what do you expect? The original manga is bordering on ecchi, the anime director’s commentary on the series is “I want to keep making lots of scenes full of jiggling breasts as much as possible.”, and zombie movies are filled with random sex generally.
If you don’t like it, don’t watch it. But there’s no reason to bitch about it every single episode.

Hehe I never really had problems with it, but I’m surprised it’s “borderline ecchi” considering the last few episodes and the rather “imaginitive” censoring I thinks it’s more like “borderline hentai”

… I have to agree with the article. There are many people that complain WAY too much about the fanservice. I respect where the director of the anime was going. There are a number of other anime that don’t necessarily follow the original story and tend to cut out a huge amount of the content.
Agreed! I think these people really need to understand that HOTD is NOT a show that you’re supposed to take overly seriously.
Its an over the top, Zombie show, and one with high schoolers wacking Zombies and firing guns? Nothing about this show is to be taken seriously at all.
I myself am getting rather tired of people bashing HOTD because they can’t get this. And if you can’t… I agree, just don’t watch it! >_>
If a zombie attack came, wouldn’t it be realistic that you’d take a gun and protect yourself with it?
Answer: the part with the zombies explains all. Beyond that, nothing is unrealistic anymore.

Why did folks expect some serious serious stuff from this show? That just confuses me seriously. I mean…its a zombies flick for crying out loud! Stuff like that is NEVER meant to be taken seriously!

And besides, honestly: does the fact that the manga had that much fanservice REALLY justifies the fact of it being present in the anime…? A fail is a fail, no matter where it started, and we know that…
Well, OK, Fanservice is not a complete fail, hence the definition… FANboys would not find it a fail, certainly…
To round it all up: fanservice should be present only in animes where it MAY be logical to watch them (and you know there are many out there)… I mean, Zombies and fanservice…? Yes, just like putting dinosaurs in the Bible…
I do give you the fact that people complain about it too much… but you must admit that they are very right to do so: HotD could have been much more of what it is now if it was not for the fanservice.…..
Oh, well, just left to wait for the next anime in this fashion, and let us hope it is made for average-public, as well, and not only fanboys/otakus/ecchi-craving nerds/all of the above…
i have no problem with fanservice, but i wish hotd didn’t have any. if not for the boobs and panties, this is a show that i could have non otaku friends watch, and they would enjoy it. but really, i will never show them, because i wouldn’t be able to stand the awkward sideways glances they’d be giving me every other scene >.<

Well, saying “if you don’t like it don’t watch it” sure makes sense, I admit it… but you must also admit that there are opinions and opinios, and people tend to commit the typical mistake of taking their own personal opinions as an universal truth… That is why “complainments” exists… Can you imagina a world where all people would simply stay shut if they do not like something…? Do you not think it would be a little too oppresive…? Like saying “if you like it, well, if not, well too”, as some kind of dictator who rules with iron fist wheter people like it or not…? I do not think that would work pretty well… And that is why “bitching”, as the author called it, is not as out of place as he thinks… It is both normal AND neccesary… There would be no effort from anime creators if the public was not critic at all, meaning we would have bad anime created every day, and we CERTAINLY do not want that…

Hey! High School Of the Dead Is bloody awesome (pun intended) It has a great storyline and the fan service is firggin awesome! If you don’t like It just don’t watch It, its simple as that, these genres aren’t for everyone… ^_^ and does anyone know when season two is coming out for the anime.. the ending was really unsatisfying –_–
