The Choice Is Yours [11]

Dear Diary,

Well, Yuri found out about our brilliant plan. Oh, and shadows are trying to eat us and make all of us NPCs.

Hinata and Naoi decided to join me in making everyone disappear. Naoi almost got eaten by the shadow though. News came to Yuri, and she brings Kanade in to question her, us tagging along. After our very fail attempts at covering up that Kanade is not evil, we find a whole group of shadows. We beat them up, but Yuri happens to spot that the shadows are NPCs. Say what?

Takematsu goes missing, leaving behind his glasses no less! Turns out he was eaten by the shadow and became an NPC. Well, that just sucks.

Yuri reveals that she knows about our plan (were we that bad at hiding it?) and asks if anyone else would like to join us. Hey, it’s better than becoming an NPC. Of course, many are against it. After the meeting, Yuri plans to figure things out on her own and told us Kanade is not a real angel. What?! What do you mean I should already know this? What do you mean it was totally revealed in diary entry 5?

Oh, and Yuri suspects the dude stealing computers is the same dude messing with the NPCs. Plus, she found a secret entrance in the computer room to…the guild again? Are you kidding me?

Thoughts

Judging by how terrible Yuzuru & co. are at covering up what they’re trying to do, Yuri finding out was no big surprise. She’s not stupid, boys. Still, the interrogation scene was fun to watch. Yuri was pretty awesome in this episode too. She’s making smart decisions and moves, and I really like her now.

The shadows are an interesting turn of events. I didn’t feel too negative about them. Thank goodness it’s not related to Kanade. She’s had the spotlight for a while. I never really expected them to be related to her, but Yuri bringing up the possibility made me sigh. It did bug me that they seemed to come out of nowhere and didn’t connect much to the story, but that was fixed when the entrance led to the guild. I’m a bit tired of the guild though. Sure, they’ve only been there twice, but there’s not much down there.

It seems Hinata and Naoi are fighting for the position of Yuzuru’s BFF. At least Hinata is. We all know Naoi wants to be his boyfriend. It’s the entire reason he’s still there. Gasp, if Yuzuru picks Kanade in the end, Naoi will never move on!

Speaking of Kanade, why haven’t we learned about her past yet? I thought they would say at least a little bit about it once Yuzuru realized, “Hey, we don’t really know your sob story!” If we learn about it in the next episode, it’ll eat time. First half of the episode should be the battle against our last Big Bad. Second half should be epilogue-like and end with everyone moving on and glimpses of their possible reincarnations. No time for Kanade’s past.

RIP Takematsu and his tendency to rip off his shirt. He will be missed.

The last episode I was still wondering how Jun Maeda was going to make the rest of the SSS disappear with so few episodes left. Yet, with a twist in the direction of the plot, its really become possible.
Given that he can make the story proceed in such a nicely thought out manner, I believe that we can trust him to give us a good conclusion, where we get to learn a little about Kanade’s past.
Either that, or he may be planning on a second season.

Oh well, lets just wait and see. I’m really hoping (almost expecting) for him to work his wonders again.

I’ve learned to never expect something amazing will happen while watching anime. Keep your expectations super low and you won’t be too disappointed.

I doubt he’d planning a second season though. The series doesn’t seem to be lending itself to one.

I usually do keep my expectations low, but Jun Maeda seems to have proven that he (and the rest of the key staff) are indeed capable enough =)

But oh well, I guess its really cause I really hope that Angel Beats ends up as my favorite spring anime, given that I’ve given up on practically everything else…

The interrogation scene made me love Naoi so much that he became my favorite character :D

Things have become more complicated for the group now that those shadows have appeared :( But hopefully Yuri finds out a good solution to get rid of those shadows. I wouldn’t want those shadows to get rid of the rest of the members, but seeing how we are close to the end it may be as such.
