[June] Monthly Marathon: MADHOUSE

Allison to Lillia — MADHOUSE

So here is the lineup for what I plan to marathon based on YOUR recommendations! And by “your” I really mean lostty’s and a friend’s recommendation.

I’m not going to take on more series than I can handle in the allotted time. After each blurb I put down an estimate of the time it should take to complete the mentioned anime series. Note: it is an estimate. For example, Kaiba is listed as taking 5 hours. Each episode is about 24 min long including the op and ed. If I watch 3 episodes per hour then I can finish in 4 hours. If I watch 2 episodes per hour then I can finish in 6 hours. I took the average and listed it as 5 hours. It all depends on the circumstances if I can watch 2 or 3 eps per hour (e.g. gotta cook food, gotta pee, gotta shower…).  At the end of the post, I will total up the time.

Kaiba

Recommended by lostty, Kaiba aired for 12 episodes in the spring of 2008. At the time, I was watching a bunch of other series the season had to offer and completely overshadowed this one. It’s art style is pretty abstract but I think I may get used to it after a few episodes. The only thing I worry about is that it’s Sci-Fi and I tend to lose interest in that type of show. I heard it was amazing so it may not even happen.

TIME: 5 hours

Tatami Galaxy

Recommended by Richard, a friend of mine, Tatami Galaxy is another abstract anime I’ll be watching. It has some seiyuus I like such as Maaya Sakamoto, Mamiko Noto, and Nobuyuki Hiyama. It’s the most recent of the bunch as it came out last spring. Judging from what I’ve seen, this may turn out to be my 2nd favorite anime this marathon, second to Jubei-chan.

TIME: 5 hours

Jubei-chan: The Ninja Girl

I have already watched 10 of the 13 episodes of this hilarious series. Jubei-chan follows a girl nicknamed Jubei-chan (no big surprise) as she gets attacked by enemies because she was passed down the family heirloom: the lovely eyepatch. All the characters are much fun!  Hilarious antics are bound to ensue! It aired back in 1999 but it’s still great :D

TIME: 1 hour

Chobits

I saw the first episode a while back ago (maybe 6 or so years back XD) and either the 2nd or 3rd episode (I will check up on that) so I just have 24 episodes to watch.  I never saw more of it because I had first watched it when I was like 12 or something and the whole ecchi thing was really disturbing to me. Now I’m willing to watch it. I want to see what exactly Chobits is about and the whole thing with Chii and Freya.

TIME: 10 hours

Rizelmine

I’ve marked that I watched 5 episodes if this series but I honestly don’t remember anything about it so I’m watching it all over again. Each episode is about 14 minutes so it’s more of a 12 episode series than a 24. All I really remember about it is me getting annoyed. Hopefully I can survive and watch the entire series. I think the short episode lengths will help me get through it because it will feel like I watched more and thus make me feel like I accomplished something XD

TIME: 5 hours

X

Honestly, the first two episode of this series bored me to death. This marathon is the only thing that is pushing me to watch it. The only thing I liked so far from what I’ve seen was saying “Hey, I know that guy! S/He was in Tsubasa!” to every familiar character. Now there’s just 22 episodes left…

TIME: 9 hours

Total time: 35 hours

35 hours of anime in 4 days sounds feasible. If all goes well, it should all get watched. A post will be written up at the end of the day for all 4  of the days allotted. I’ll be watching somewhere around 21 episodes a day.
