The second half of this day was spent on Tatami Galaxy or its Japanese name: Yojou-Han Shinwa Taikei. You can’t find this anime if you don’t know its Japanese name.
The first thing I noticed was that they talked way too fast! It must have been faster than even Zetsubou-sensei! But anyways, I really thought that I was going to like this more than Kaiba but the opposite seemed to happen. I think what made me like Kaiba more was that each episode in Tatami Galaxy was just a restart of Watashi’s first two years in college. Don’t get me wrong, it was interesting but it’s just not as gratifying as Kaiba has been.
The setup is quite interesting. We have a matchmaking god that I think is the cause of the time warp, that along with Watashi’s desire to change his messed up life. The first episode basically sets the trend for later episodes. At the end of that episode Watashi states that if he joined a different club or circle then he would have never met the source of his disaster, Ozu, and would have had the rose-colored college life he dreamed of presumably with Akashi. After that, each episode explores the different life paths Watashi said would lead him to his desired life but the fact is that each choice still follows a similar pattern. In essence, the same stuff is basically going to happen but with slight differences.
Despite that, it still manages to be entertaining. I at first was put off with Ozu’s demonic demeanor but as the episodes passed I found him to be slightly funny but still mischevious. The character that really grossed me out definitely had to be the guy who had an obsession with boobs. I mean, having a wall of boobs and drinking out of baby bottles (cuz it’s like breastfeeding) is going way too far. I really love Akashi and her hatred for moths XD her whole personality is great and she really is blunt about things. What really connects her and Watashi is the promise he made with her. Now, I don’t think that Watashi feels much for Akashi. He may like her but I don’t think it’s anywhere near love. On the topic of love, Ozu has mentioned that Watashi has had a girlfriend before but Watashi doesn’t say much except for the fact that it failed. Hopefully, more light will be brought upon it.
What I’m waiting for the most is when the episodes start to have profound changes. I can’t wait to stop seeing that fortune teller lady. As it’s going, it looks like there may not be away to escape from Ozu and he’s going to have to accept that fact. Instead of focusing on the past, he may have to just look to the future for change. But we’ll see soon… it’s a good thing I’m marathoning it. I won’t have to wait weeks to see the end of his endeavors ![]()
