Interview with Omisyth

The last blogger interview for a while is here, since I am now out of original questions. (We don’t want kyoanic interviews after all, do we). Omisyth! The British man of the aniblogosphere, one of the fewer bloggers I read even tl;dr, and… OK, just read.

Gargron: What do you think is your strength, and what are your weak points when blogging?

Omisyth: I think my strength is to be able to understand different points of view on the same subject. I occassionally disagree with others’ points of view, but I at least understand where they’re coming from. Unless I don’t like them. In which case everything they write is wrong.

Gargron: Is aniblogging a drug for you, as it is for Digitalboy?

Omisyth: I thought it would be, but I just haven’t found much stimulation for writing these days. I still love anime but I’m less and less inclined to write about it. I’m not going to be declaring a “hiatus” or anything like that. If I write, I write. If I don’t, I don’t. Digiboy’ll be writing till the end of time though. Such is the POWER of PASSION.

Gargron: Recently you have listed Top 10 Anime Fetishes, but what are your personal ones?

Omisyth: Curvy women. I’ve never understood the fascination with lolis. Seriously, if there’s no T&A, what’s the point?

Gargron: How do your parents handle your hobby, if they do?

Omisyth: Ha, my mum doesn’t really care. She just wonders why there’s screaming coming from my computer every now and again. I blame D.Gray-man and Dragonball Z.

Gargron: Say something about the ‘live and work in Japan’ dream of the most of the aniblogosphere.

Omisyth: I didn’t know that was a dream. What a weird dream.

Gargron: You know what I mean.

Gargron: What is the most annoying thing you’ve ever seen in anime?

Omisyth: Hamdo from Now and Then, Here and There. Most annoying, rage-inducing character of all time.

Gargron: What is the best thing you’ve ever seen in anime?

Omisyth:: Hamdo dying from Now and Then, Here and There. Crushed under several million tonnes of water. Asshole.

Gargron: Evil question, what are you favourite blogs besides your own?

Omisyth: My blog’s nowhere near my favourite. Hell, I’m not even sure it’s that good. In any case, I’ll probably do a post about this since they’re popping up all over the place, but for the top 5 I’ll just say We Remember Love, Ha Neul Seom, Mono no Aware, Epic Win and Baka-Raptor.

Gargron: Why is your blog not your favourite? Isn’t it normal?

Omisyth: If I had to describe my blog in one word, I’d just say it’s very “blah”. It doesn’t have anything that really distinguishes it from the hundreds of others. I think that’s part of the reason I’m not writing at the moment — I have loads of ideas but I’m always thinking that I need to take them to another level that’s both entertaining and unique. But mostly entertaining. No-one wants to read something that doesn’t engage them.

Gargron: Even more evil question, how do you rate anime? What is important and what not?

Omisyth: I’ll watch pretty much anything that’s not shoujo or yaoi, so I don’t have much of a system. Each show has its own positives and negatives. If it’s great, high ratings, if not, low ratings.

Gargron: And what parts of the show/film are more significant for you than the others? Graphics, sound, storyline, or something else?

Omisyth: Honestly, it all depends.  Take Pandora Hearts. The show has god-awful animation, but the art’s fantastic. Going into the show, I wasn’t thinking “if this show doesn’t have great animation/music/characters, I am/am not going to watch it”. There’s no one facet that’s the most important to me — it all comes together to make the finished product.

Gargron: And at last, say something about lolicons. (Question donated by Shinn)

Omisyth: To each their own. When limited to the 2-dimensional plain. KEEP IT IN YOUR MIND, LOLICONS.

Gargron: Be careful with that saying, you know where it was engraved and how it was interpreted once. Anyway, thank you for the interview!

I agree that the blog is there mainly to entertain. Different things entertain different people though, but I find it to be nice if people can read a long post and enjoy themselves.

Also, Omisyth, I like how succinct both your “most annoying” and “best moments” responses are. You are a better writer than you realize.
