For those who still didn’t hear yet, there are moé links now

Some time passed since the launch of the new aniblogosphere-intern URL short­en­ing ser­vice m0e.me, which means it sur­vived its first phase and gained some con­stant users, which in fol­low­ing means that I can spread the word about it and be sure that that word is interesting.

So, m0e.me. In its case, not the tech­no­logy behind but the very frontview is the attrac­tion. As I said, the tech­no­logy is not spe­cial: Not only there are plenty of URL short­en­ing ser­vices and scripts, but those scripts are unbe­liev­ably simple to write at that. What I per­son­ally find is a geni­ously idea of its gochujin-sama Moy­ism is its name. It’s not the shortest domain out there, there are all those ow.ly and is.gd ser­vices, but they don’t have quite the charme (besides ow.ly per­haps, I like owls): the charme of lulz com­bined with the feel­ing ‘it’s one of us’ (which would be aniblogosphere-specific), as also the asso­ci­ation with K-ON! and espe­cially Mio (on whose Moe~moe~kyun scene the idea is based). And m0e.me is not longer than the nowadays pop­u­lar bit.ly and much shorter than the good old tinyurl.com, so besides the charme it also does its job fine.

The ser­vice runs on the YOURLS script and has a gen­er­ous API. Basic­ally, you request m0e.me/yourls-api.php and give it the URL as a var. Prac­tic­ally, you open m0e.me?yourls-api.php?url=THEURLHERE and it shows you the new, short ver­sion as a plain text string.

I reques­ted the sup­port of the ser­vice in the very pop­u­lar Word­Press plu­gins WordTwit and Sexy­Book­marks, still haven’t got­ten a reply from neither of both though. Cur­rently one could use it by manu­ally edit­ing the plu­gin files, but that’s a mess, plus giv­ing the users one more shortener option is not much of deal so I think it’s just a mat­ter of time untill our blog posts will be tweeted moé. You could also request that though, to emphas­ize its sig­ni­fic­ance to the plu­gin authors.
