Why are people using MAL?

To show off that they have watched so many more anime than everybody else, that they have so much more experience and in general that they rule. That in the first place, and the second place’s taken by um, what was the episode I watched at last, can’t remember, fff!

Why should they change to Melative?

Because there they can do everything above and a lot more. Track your experience on anime, manga, but also music, cinematograph, literature, visual novels, and what medium may come in the future. Melative is future-proof, because it’s fluid. It’s like with the following example: In Judaism, it’s allowed to eat animals who chew the cud and have cloven hooves, but not allowed to eat animals who only chew the cude or only have cloven hooves, in fact — pigs. The Islam simplified the rule, by stating that pigs are not allowed to be eaten. Now, Israel created gen-manipulated kosher pigs, but the muslems still can’t enjoy the tastiest of the meat. (Can it be one of the mid-east conflict’s reasons, the envy?)

So as I say, fluidity. Moreover, Melative has an amazing, Twitter-like API, which means it allows all kinds of Third-Party applications for any aspects of the system.

That’s why you should change, or at least try using, Melative, the experience engine. You can show off far better.

And if you like using it, and have a blog or Twitter, why not spreading the word further?

There’s an import tool, but it’s not to find on the site itself. So here: http://tools.melative.com/mal/rss/x

It’s a JS bookmarklet, copy the link on the page to your toolbar, open your MAL list, click on the bookmarklet.

Then what? I am still trying out Melative.. and while I am not a programmer by no means.. at least Melative might be a smidge more intuitive to actually list things. But damned if you don’t get the programing/coding part.

I’ll cite Ryan on that, because my explanations always fail. So, importing from MAL to Melative:

          1) http://tools.melative.com/mal/rss/_
          2) drag the bookmarklet to Bookmarks
          3) visit list, and click on the bookmark

And the programming part can’t really be called that, can it? It’s the same syntax as in MMORPGs, just extended.^^

    WHOA, is this true??!?!?!?!

How is the Melative database? The nice thing about MAL is it is very comprehensive with data, since it already has so many users.

      Yeah, it’s true. Funny, heh?

You can say anything of the recent seasons and the most of the well-known old stuff are there, it’s always growing and you can add stuff by yourself too. If you update/add via the command line (the Twitter like thing with actions) it accepts media that are not in the database, too. Kind of, for later use/filling in.

Actions are simple (e.g. if you have played WoW, it’s pretty like the emotion-actions there):

      /{action} /{mediatype}/{title}/{episodechaperwhatever}. {Your comment on it}

      So for example:

      /completed /anime/Chobits/. Ecchi!
      or
      /watched /anime/Soul Eater/50. Final’s near!
      or
/read /manga/Koe de Oshigoto!/01. Risky, but damn good.

the database is not that much updated XD, like nhk ni youkoso just having a light novel and kaiba not even existing but since it’s still in alpha, i guess it could still be improved.

I think melative is not so user friendly unlike MAL, even deleting an entry has to use an api-i-don’t-know-what-you-call-it.

Koe de Oshigoto! is good. Damn good, even.

    YOU ANTI-MUSLIM COW!! lol nah.
Anti-religion is as dumb as Racism.

I actually caught a whiff of pork before, and I couldn’t say that it didn’t smell good. To say that is like saying that the sky isn’t red.

Sorry. I was a bit worried whether I’d hurt you but then I thought, after all, this example speaks about middle east and not Malaysia.

Pig meat is as good as Koe de Oshigoto!. ^^

Meh. Islam is a largely misunderstood religion.

Simply put, all kosher food(minus the Gene-pig o’course) is Halal, and not all Halal foods are kosher.

Yep to other programming concerns, how do people actually comment on other titles? Shouldn’t there be like a set vocabulary list? I see the coding aspect, and it can be interesting, but to others it can be frustrating.

Yes, there is one. On the Stream page, above the posting form, there is a link ‘Show Help’, and there is help, kind of. Well, Ryan’s old design hides such little things, but as you’ve may heard I’m working on a redesign. ^^
