Earl Grey

Not as I wanted but nevertheless 'final'

I tried to finally accomplish a painting with a good, solid background, but as you see I failed. Instead I made this advert-styled poster, featuring my maid Tsuki a.k.a. the a² mascot, and the Earl Grey tea, my favourite sort.

This time I’ve vectored the lineart, and worked with resolution of omg-2000px-wide. As you can guess my poor and low-resourced laptop had cried and screamed.

Great work. Way better than I could ever do, though to be honest that’s not saying much. Only critique would be that her right eye seems a bit too big for the face.

Critique accepted. Now when you (and, well, 4 people below) mention that, I see my fault.

She’s so cute~ Everything was done really well! But, agreeing with NoDeath, I think that her right eye is a bit big.
Seeing this makes me want to go draw a maid too~

If you draw not some maid, but our Tsuki, the art piece will be featured on the mascots page (which is still in construction due to lack of fan art ;_;)

Third times the charm, so I’ll also mention that her right eye is huge, and I’m not talkin’ bout her chest! *ba dum psh*… That sort of big-eye is more suited for the goofy/stretchy style of Gainax, but I’m not sure you wanted to go for that. Also, her waist seems to be very long.

I’m also concerned about her chest area. I’m wondering why you would give cleavage to a gal who doesn’t need it, or rather, not suited for her. Yea, I know, it’s anime, but sometimes you have to ask yourself, “hmm, would my character actually be smiling with an outfit like that?” If I had that size rack, hells no I wouldn’t! So yea, it seems like you’re up-ing the sex appeal, but most of the time it’s not necessary. Anime characters have feelings too you know =(

The hands/arms are also a little goofy-looking (I still need work on hands too, so don’t worry =3) You should use a mirror (along with a tray-like object) to see how the hand looks while holding a tray. Your body can also be your best manikin, so take advantage of that! (just don’t go stuffing melons into your shirt =D)

I never stop improving her design, so e.g. now she wears the star of David on her chest and has a bit more solid arm stripes. So if you say a cleavage is unneccessary, I’ll use a more standardized maid outfit. Or stop drawing her as maid and try a school uniform! (she’s 16 after all)

Her chest, well, at the beginning I planned to make her flat, but at last decided to increase her size a bit. But no further. She’s 16.

A fault surprisengly nobody noticed is, that her head is a bit too big. Her longer waist is a child of the proportions misunderstanding — as you know it should be around to head heights long.

And next time she won’t be suggestively smiling, I promise. I’ll try to avoid portraiting her and try to slice-of-life something.

And lol, I was looking at me holding a tablet, but what I need to put here is:
      *facepalm*
      I didn’t use a mirror.

That eye is big. But that aside, very nice picture.

Thanks! Shading is my favourite part of work, too.

Not bad! Not bad at all, Gargron-kun! The shading turned out good in the end, but isn’t the eye shaded as well? Can’t seem to see it from here…

Agreed with all commenters above — cute maid with nice proportions; only her right eye makes her look a bit odd. But it’s a nice vector.

(Besides, I like Earl Grey too. Especially the Twinings one. But that’s a little besides the point xD)
